Construction - Peghead 2

The end result is always uncertain till the binding is cleaned up.

Using locater pins, gluing the overlays to the neck blank is fairly straightforward. However, cleaning up the peghead and matching the edges to the previously bound overlay demands close attention.

In shaping both the overlay and the peghead, a spindle sander is a great tool; but in the end, final cleanup depends on rasps, files, and sandpaper.

I can’t say the results of this method are better than what I used to achieve when gluing the overlay and then shaping and binding the headstock. I’m also not sure that it’s any quicker. But the process flows nicely, and for now, seems more enjoyable.
